GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONCEPT OF LIBRARY

The word ‘library’ is derived from the Latin word ‘liber’ which means ‘a book’. Library is a place where books are kept for reading, study or reference.’ Libraries are now regarded as “service institutions.” “Use of books” and “service to the readers” is the cardinal principles followed in libraries. Libraries encourage and promote reading habit in the minds of young children. They are helping reading for education, reading for information, reading for entertainment, life - long education etc. There are five laws of library science:-

	Books are for use
	Every reader his or her book
	Every book its reader
	Save the time of the reader
	Library is a growing organism.

These five laws permeate into all aspects of library and library techniques – book selection, classification, cataloguing, reference service, administration, organization and every area.

D.C.MODEL SR. SEC. SCHOOL provides an art & craft club in which creativity & Artistic senses are enhanced among the children.

It frees the children from the boredom of the academics, give opportunity to prove them. It builds confidence & self respect among the children.

Various inter house competitions based on art & craft are organized every month in our school. Children of our club also participate in various interschool competitions & bring laurels for us.

Every year an exhibition based on art & craft is held in our school. A quality display of Art works made by the tender hands of the children often leaves the spectators spell bound.
